On an exciting walking safari, learn the traditional skills of tracking and identifying spoor to discover the lesser creatures of the bush. Seasons of Wildebeest Migration:

The East African Wildebeest Migration, often known as “The Great Migration,” occurs between Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and Kenya’s Masai Mara and is one of the world’s most spectacular wildlife spectacles. Hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebras travel between the Serengeti and the Masai Mara in search of new grass. Predators (lion, hyena, and cheetah) are closely following the large herds, taking advantage of every opportunity to get their next meal.

The rains determine the exact timing of the yearly wildebeest migration. The Serengeti’s calving season takes place between January and mid-March, and it’s a very unpredictable and spontaneous natural event. In May or June, the wildebeest migration begins its journey to the Western Serengeti.

Between June and August, when the wildebeest assemble and prepare to cross the famed Grumeti River, is the greatest time to watch the migration. You can expect the wildebeest to arrive in the Masai Mara as early as July, but they usually come between August and September and stay in the Masai Mara until October or November. Between the end of November and the beginning of January, wildebeest migrate from the Masai Mara to the Serengeti.
